What is the Cyber Essentials government scheme?
Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, Government backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common internet born cyber-attacks. There are two levels of certification – Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.
The scheme was launched by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in 2014. Both Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus, use an online self-assessment questionnaire. With Cyber Essentials Plus, a third party confirms the tools declared on the self-assessment are correct and implemented in the business. Both certifications last for 12 months and need to be reapplied for annually.

What is Cyber Essentials
Cyber Essentials allows organisations to provide a statement that they have the basic controls in place. The Cyber Essentials certification is a verified self-assessment, which can (if required)often be completed and issued within 24 hours.
What is Cyber Essentials plus
This higher certification comprises of completing the self-assessment followed by a technical audit of the systems that are in-scope for Cyber Essentials Cyber Essentials Plus expands on the Cyber Essentials Verified Self-Assessment(Cyber Essentials).
The certification will taking a sample set aims to and validate the answers provided during the Cyber Essentials, and confirm that all the tools and controls that have been declared in the in Cyber Essentials self-assessment, have been implemented correctly in the organisation. This is done by a cyber security expert taking a sample set and confirming that all software is operational.
Once you have undertaken the Cyber Essentials Plus certification, you can confirm that your organisation has been audited and that the software declared, is implemented in your business.
