Meet Myles Lawson, Penetration Tester.

After joining the team in January 2023, Myles soon cemented himself as a key part of the group by working extremely hard and contributing to several internal projects, including working on our new cyber security platform. We asked Myles about life at Cybaverse.

Can you share a bit about your professional journey and experience leading up to joining Cybaverse? What attracted you to work here?

My passion for cyber security and technology began long before my formal education. Over the years, this interest has guided my choices and led me to pursue a degree in Cyber Security Management from Southampton Solent University. My hands-on experiences, such as representing Solent University in a Hackathon competition and developing an autonomous ship monitoring program, laid the groundwork for my professional career later on in life. I was drawn to Cybaverse because it presented the ideal environment to apply my skills and make an impact in the cyber security industry.

How has your educational and professional background contributed to your success in your current role at Cybaverse?

I found that my time at University provided an insight into areas such as Ethical Hacking, Network Security, and Threat Intelligence Analysis. Alongside with hands-on coding experience in languages like Python, as well as proficiency in tools like Burpsuite and Metasploit, I've been able to navigate and contribute to a number of various projects at Cybaverse.

What unique skills, experiences, or perspectives do you bring to your role at Cybaverse?

I find that I am able to adapt to new programming languages and applications swiftly. My role as a full-stack developer and my experience in managing a community outside of work have given me unique insights into server management and tailored coding solutions, has helped be to apply my skills to a variety of projects.

Tell us about some of the work you've undertaken at Cybaverse.

Within Cybaverse, I've had the privilege of consulting with clients, understanding their specific cyber security needs to craft tailored solutions. Additionally, I have utilised my coding knowledge to assist the company in developing a number of platforms to improve efficiency across a number of departments as well as improving the customer experience. My involvement in projects often revolves around identifying network vulnerabilities, and leveraging my expertise to fortify our clients' digital assets.

In your opinion, what sets Cybaverse apart as a workplace? How does the company foster a positive and inclusive culture?

I think that what really differentiates Cybaverse is its commitment to its team. The company is always listening to employee feedback, creating a culture where every voice is not just heard but valued. Cybaverse's focus on personal growth and team collaboration creates a nurturing environment where individual talents are recognised and celebrated.

Have you undertaken or plan to undertake any training or development that will assist with your role at Cybaverse?

I am actively working towards the CSTM exam. This certification will further enhance my understanding and expertise, ensuring that I remain learning and enhancing my role to bring the best I can to the company.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of work? What do you like to do in your free time?

During my free time, I like to go rock climbing and wakeboarding - both of which offer a break from spending my time looking at a screen. I also invest a significant portion of my time in capture the flag (CTF) platforms to enhance my skills further.

If you could give one piece of advice to new employees joining Cybaverse, what would it be?

Always approach any challenges with an open mind. The world of cyber security is always changing and adaptability is key. Embrace change, seek out any learning opportunities you can, and remember that every experience is a stepping stone to growth.
